Is this really wise?

In a little bit, I'm off for my first shift at Staples...a rather wonderful full-service stationery store.

Is this wise?

Won't I find myself spending my miniscule wages (I'm not doing this for the money, obviously) on store product?

Or maybe it will be like the time I worked in a bakery. Common practice in a bakery is to tell new staff to eat what they want...very soon they will tire of it. It's when they can't have it that they want it so badly.

Hmm. There's a truism in that.

1) You get a store discount.
2) You get to be around all those fun products, and see the latest cool items.
3) Did I mention the store discount?

/let me know if they get patterned file folders

One can only hope it's like the bakery.

So how was the first shift? What was the "actual take home pay" after stationary purchases...

Does this theory also prove true of you at the farmers market? Do you spend there to?

Does this mean I will be buying stairs?

This is way to deep for me...obviously I need some sleep...to many questions not enough answers...

All your friends will be nicer to you. Keep 5% for your commission.

Notice how my friends are supporting me, but my husband is not too thrilled with me in my own little candy store. It's a sign.

Sonia -- you're buying stairs? Huh? Are you working at a ladder factory? And no, I don't spend that much at the farmers' market...I buy a few bits of produce that we actually need, and my vendors often give me stuff.

This week, at the end of the market, I was walking down the street with PJ (of the store discount obsession), eating cherries off a tree branch (the orchardist had brought in a few branches for customer sampling). This week was fresh basil (I made pesto for the first time!) and tomatoes. Last week it was dried oregano and apricots. Who knows what it'll be next week!

I'm waiting for the organic meats dude to give us some free steaks.

Just how much stationery can you eat before you tire of it?

Why don't you just walk up to him and offer to eat his meat for free? Never fails.

Anyway, I've had a free bratwurst from him.

@ Raincoaster. Honey--you really are getting desperate, aren't you?

@ Everyone else: Please. please cease encouraging Mme Metro to indulge her penchant for accumulating paper.

I have heard it said that marriages can stand twin beds, but never twin addresses, and eventually there would be twin addresses: one for us, one for the accumualted paper.

Notice how he doesn't say anything about books...good. I can continue to accumulate books.

You are all my witnesses!

Snark on me all you want; your wife is getting the brat from another man! But I'm sure she'd just say he's the wurst.

My wife is actually seeing the brat in her comment section.

And bastinado was invented for comments like that.
